I was incredibly grateful to be back in the lush meadows of Virginia, surrounded by friends, dancing, and playing music for a weekend. We drove from Washington DC., just a short hour to Middleburg, VA– but there was a dramatic difference in landscape scenery from the grey and crowded city to the quiet but charismatic barn nestled among the forest and fields.
We feasted on these fresh strawberries courtesy of our friends who came up from RVA, and upon a hilltop watching the sunset was the best place to enjoy.
For my acoustic set, I had the pleasure of following up the talented Mar Rose with their engaging performance including a looper pedal and catchy beats and melodies from their album Humble Heart.
I started off my set by playing the debut track off my first EP, which was also the first song I wrote back in 2018– The First Day. This was followed up with one of my favorite songs to jam out to, Pineapple Sunrise, and two unreleased tracks. I also played Roll Away for the first time live, which is the first song I released in 2020 with two other banjo badass women. To wrap up the set, I played another couple of unreleased songs including one I found in my voice memos from several years ago titled Interlude (You are The Light).
This last one felt special to me, considering I wrote it on a farm in upstate NY during the pandemic summer. It was the first time I felt really truly connected to the land around me and could drop in to be present and feel true engagement and love from working with the Earth. Learning about homesteading practices, herbal remedies and plant medicine, this experience set me on a path towards pursuing regeneration of mind, body, spirit and land.
Take care <3
